Mark co-founded and is one of the managing partners of the firm. He has over fifteen years of experience as an attorney working with technologies of a complex mechanical nature, involving, in particular, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems. Mark’s qualifications are based upon a combination of governmental, intellectual property firm, corporate and general practice firm experience. Mark has worked as an associate at the Washington, D.C. intellectual property law firm of Sixbey, Friedman, Leedom and Ferguson; then provided in-house counseling for five years at 3M. He also was a partner at Faegre & Benson prior to founding this firm. Mark also worked for four years as a Patent Examiner of complex mechanical systems at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Significant experiences include assessing the patentability of inventions, drafting and prosecuting patent applications around the world, drafting and negotiating technology transfer and new product development agreements, conducting intellectual property due diligence investigations, preparing infringement and validity opinions, helping clients manage and protect large intellectual property portfolios, and managing intellectual property litigation. These matters have involved a wide range of technologies:

  • Automotive engine and drive train design, fuel injection systems, and steering and suspension systems
  • Package design and packaging equipment
  • Food products, processing lines and systems
  • Telecommunications devices and systems, including optical devices, lasers and systems
  • Web handling and processing
  • Polymer and metal processing and product forming equipment
  • Semiconductor processing equipment
  • Medical devices
